Campus Updates on COVID-19 Risk Factor

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

For the first time in over a year, Rollins has lowered the campus risk factor to green. This risk assessment is informed by the great work everyone on our campus continues to do to keep us safe, by the percent positivity for COVID-19 in Orange County dipping below a 14-day rolling average of 5 percent, and our campus positivity rate remaining below 1 percent. It is a time to both celebrate and continue to proceed with caution. Effective today, we are further reducing our COVID-19 protocols, acknowledging that we may need to reintroduce these at a future date if there is another spike in cases:

  • Meeting spaces may now have up to 50% of the room capacity with 3-foot distancing and masks. This includes larger spaces like the Alfond Sports Center, the Annie Russell Theatre, Knowles Memorial Chapel, and Tiedtke Hall.
  • Outdoor gatherings no longer have caps on attendance; please consult on your plans with Scheduling & Event Services if your group is more than 250. Masks are encouraged for unvaccinated individuals at indoor and outdoor gatherings.
  • Masks are optional, though encouraged, in the following spaces:
    • Groups (not classes) of up to 15 meeting in enclosed spaces in academic and administrative buildings, if everyone agrees.
    • Residential buildings
    • Warden and McKean Gymnasiums (excluding athletic competitions), Daryl’s Fitness Center, the Anchor Club, and locker rooms
  • Masks will continue to be required in:
    • Classrooms -- For now, we will continue with masking to protect vulnerable students and faculty in classrooms, as they cannot opt out of attending, as aligned with CDC guidance. We will reconsider masking in classrooms when the County positivity rate reaches 3 percent.
    • Wellness Center
    • Public spaces of all non-residential buildings, including academic and administrative common spaces
    • Department heads retain the right to require masks in work spaces to protect vulnerable individuals.
  • The Pillow Room in Olin will open (masks are optional if the group is 15 or less).
  • Bush Atrium and Bush Café are now open for food and drink consumption (masks need to be up when not actively eating).
  • Catered indoor events are possible with 3-foot distancing and masks down only for eating (masks are optional if the group is 15 or less).
  • #CampusClear will no longer be required on a daily basis. Instead, use #CampusClear to report:
    • Testing positive for COVID-19
    • Close contact (less than 3-6 feet apart for 15 cumulative minutes within 24 hours with a positive COVID-19 individual)
    • COVID-19 symptom(s)

We will continue to have R-card access to buildings on campus.

Thank you for your continued attention to our COVID-19 protocols. The safety of our campus community remains our priority, and at any time we may need to adjust these protocols.
