COVID-19 Dashboard

Rollins College in consultation with our Orange County Public Health Department epidemiologist, Jennifer Finnegan, will use these indicators to inform decisions during the academic year. This framework will remain in place until a COVID-19 vaccine is widely available. All data in this dashboard are updated as results are received and verified.

Rollins College Status Levels

Working with public health officials and our emergency operations team, Rollins has established these four campus risk status levels:

Status 1: GREEN = Low risk level
Status 2: YELLOW = Low moderate risk level
Status 3: ORANGE = Moderate risk level
Status 4: RED = High risk level

Rollins employs risk status levels developed by Covid Act Now, a nonprofit providing local-level disease intelligence and data analysis.

LOW: On track to contain COVID
MEDIUM: Slow disease growth
HIGH: At risk of outbreak
CRITICAL: Active or imminent outbreak
SEVERE: Severe outbreak

Definitions and Terminology

Rapid Test – This antigen test is given by a healthcare provider and available at the Wellness Center. Rapid results are available within 30 minutes. Used for those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID19 or had a close contact exposure to someone with COVID19. A negative result means that the proteins from the virus were not found in your sample at the time of collection.

Protean BioDiagnostic Testing – This testing is provided on campus for students, faculty and staff without symptoms through a research study on COVID-19. It is self-administered through an anterior nasal swab (not the deep nasal pharyngeal swab) and saliva (spit). FDA approved PCR results are available in 5-7 days with follow up testing approximately two weeks later. The goal of this study is to understand the baseline of COVID on campus.

PCR testing – stands for polymerase chain reaction. PCR is a serologic test that searches for the hallmarks of the virus. Available through Quest Diagnostics, this test is administered up the nose through a nasal swab administered by a healthcare provider and can take up to 7 days for results. Used for those who are exhibiting one or more symptoms of COVID-19 or who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.

#CampusClear Mobile App – a daily self-screening ap required to be completed by all students, faculty and staff who are on campus. This “wellness pass” is part of our comprehensive strategy to control the spread of COVID-19 on campus. Be prepared to show your “wellness pass” to access certain buildings and spaces on campus.

Isolation is separating sick people from healthy people to prevent spread of disease.

Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.

Effluent Testing – Wastewater from residence halls will be tested on a weekly basis using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis with CDC novel coronavirus primers. This provides up to seven days’ advance notice of an increase in infection in a residence hall. This will signal us to test everyone in a residence hall and respond accordingly.

Contact Tracing – The practice of tracking down and monitoring people who have been in close proximity to someone who is infected. This is vital in containing the spread of the virus across campus. Rollins has contracted with Rapid-Trace to expand our capacity for contact tracing beyond our Wellness Center medical staff. Rapid-Trace will send emails, texts and phone calls to individuals who may have been exposed through contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19.
